Sintra: Palace of Monserrate - 22 Mar 2024 Part 6

Updated: Feb 12

We walked out of Quinta da Regaleira and were tired. Honestly, we would have skipped Monserrate if we hadn't already bought the tickets. We were not about to walk 45 minutes uphill, so we took a tuk tuk. Our driver wanted the boys to have fun, so she was a little crazy driving.

Monserrate Palace is where the Portuguese court resides for the summer. It was built in the 1500s and is a UNESCO site.

When you arrive, there is a shuttle or a long walk to get to the palace. The shuttle wasn't there so we opted to walk. It's a pretty walk but long, or maybe my legs were just done.

This is the pathway. It was very easy to walk.

There were many paths, but we took the quick route to the palace. We stopped at the waterfall then continued to a pond and soaked our feet.

And here is Monserrate Palace. It was worth the trip.

This place is gorgeous. It is in the process of being renovated.

I loved the hallways.

I will need to come back and see this place once it's finished.

The music room was gorgeous. But you had to be really quiet, the acoustics were terrific.

I thought this was really interesting. It's the food elevator (dumbwaiter) from the kitchen to the dining room.

Since they were renovated, it didn't take long to explore the palace. Still worth the visit though. That's Dorte and the boys resting. Glad I'm not the only one exhausted.

Here is a view of the garden by the waterfall and from the palace.

Okay onto the final stop of the day. Please see Part 7.
