We walked a well-worn path to the Moorish Castle. It took us about 5 minutes, downhill. The Moorish Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and so worth a visit. The Moors occupied it until about 1147 when it was handed over to the King of Portugal.

This place is like a fairy tale world. It's so green and lush. It's also so quiet and peaceful.

This is a huge fortification. You can walk the on the walls or inside, either way you have great views all around. The Moors would have been able to see people coming from a long way away.

You can see Pena Palace in the distance and one of the guard towers of the Moorish Castle.

It's so hard to imagine them building this over a century (almost 2) ago. It's so massive.
Here are some views from the top.
We walked around for a while. It was a great change from Pena Palace, which was so busy. Plus, it looked like a Disney set.

This is a view of the inside (protected area) of the fortification.

We were so hungry by this time. We decided to walk into Sintra (downhill) for lunch. Please see Part 3.
