Driving to Spain - 24 Mar 2024 Part 1

Updated: Feb 13

Today I start off on my own. I dropped Dorte and the boys at the airport and headed for Spain. I crossed the Tagus River on this cool bridge, Ponte Vasco da Gama.

It was a beautiful drive.

I decided to check out Almendres Cromlech along my way. I took some rough roads to get there. My poor little rental car. Good thing no one was around so I could use the whole road.

The olive trees are so cool. It was a gorgeous drive with lots of wildflowers.

I made it to Alemdres Cromlech. These are from prehistoric times, about 7,000 years ago. They were built to face the sunrise and sunset. There were more than a 100 (95 today) of these monoliths arranged in a circle or elliptical shape. Some are decorated but to preserve them you can't walk up to them.

It was very peaceful and quiet here. I really wished I could walk through and seen them better.

Here is a 360-degree view. It was an energizing experience.

I'm heading to Evora, Portugal now. Please see Part 2. Here is my route so far.
