When I read about the Chapel of Bones, I knew I had to visit. It was built by monks in the 17th century. Not only is it the one the most popular monuments in Evora but it's also an UNSECO site.

The Chapel of Bones is located in Sao Francisco Church.

There is a nice courtyard inside with flowers. And the tiles are beautiful.
Then you come to this entryway. This is the Chapel of Bones doorway. That says, "We bones that are here, for yours we wait". The message of the architects was to impress the fragility of human life and that we are here only temporarily.

Note only are there bones everywhere but they are artfully arranged.

It was a little unsettling at first but then I could appreciate it from an art aspect.

The ceiling had painted skulls as well.

I can't imagine how they came up with this idea or the designs.

Here is a video walk through to give you a better idea.
This church also has a main area that is used for services.

They like gold apparently.

This church also houses a collection of nativity scenes. There were so many and so different. Here are a couple of my favorites.

They also have an upstairs balcony or viewing platform, with some nice views of the area.
