Amsterdam - 10 Nov 2023

The day was chilly and wet but that wasn't going to stop us from exploring. We started by walking around. Then decided we should get the hop on/off boat tour.

ree

The canals are so pretty, just like in the pictures and movies I've seen.

ree

I would not want to park here though. I can't imagine how many people have fallen in the canals. They do go through and remove bikes every year.

ree

The decorations they up are pretty. Kind of wish I was here a little later, I'd love to see it all done.

ree

Not only do you have to watch for cars, buses, trams and people, but bikes come out of nowhere.

ree

The hop on/off cruise was nice. Not only was it covered but seeing things from the canals was a nice perspective.

ree

The churches are just incredible. Spoiler alert, we go in this one later on.

ree

We took the green line around.

ree

This is so cute, it's from 1695 and used to be a lockhouse.

ree

The newer places seem to lack something.

ree

We could appreciate the bridges from the boat.

ree

I love the tower.

ree

We hopped off the boat and went to Hard Rock Cafe. We had lunch and saw Rembrandt's Amsterdam Experience. It was really interesting.

ree

I have no clue but they were funny.

ree

I went inside my first Cheese Museum, Henri Willig. Yes, it's a thing, with free samples.

ree

The front of Amsterdam houses are tilted forward. I thought it was because they were old, that's not the case. They tilt forward and have a pulley at the top to move furniture and house items in and out without banging into the house.

ree

Amsterdam is very LGBTQ friendly.

ree

I was surprised how many people were here. It's early November, cold and rainy. The place was very busy. We tried to go to Anne Frank's House, but the tickets were sold out all weekend.

ree

I loved the flower market. I can't imagine how amazing it would be in the spring.

We found a peanut butter store, De Pindakaaswinkel. They had some odd flavors and we got to try several. My favorite was Garlic Baked Onion.

Amsterdam Clock Tower.

I love the canals at night. The lights are so pretty.

We decided to go to the IceBar. We went into a bar area and waited for our turn in the IceBar. We were given a few tokens because paid entry got us 3 drinks. We bundled up in coats and gloves and walked into the cold. 15F or -9C. Everything was made of ice. The shot glasses stuck to your gloves.

ree

After we walked some more. We went right through the redlight district, no one was in. FYI - don't take pictures if there are people in the windows.

ree

Then we ended up at Molly Malone's Irish Pub. I was so glad to see the lights by the canal. I can't imagine walking after a few drinks.
